Bunnell ‘Project Butterfly’ landfill proposal scrapped amid local pushback — Oviedo Real Estate news

It was a major victory on Wednesday night for people who have been railing against a controversial landfill project in Bunnell. The city commission held a special meeting, where the city manager called for a “fresh start” on the proposal after local residents complained the plan — dubbed “Project Butterfly” — was essentially kept secret the first time around.Residents spoke up about a variety of concerns, including smells, property values, and potentially contaminated water. After Wednesday’s meeting, commissioners voter unanimously to approve all the appeal they heard, denying a special exception for the landfill and effectively killing the plan for the forseeable future.
